The International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (2026) will be implemented throughout the year, with a specific theme highlighted each month. Within the framework of this international initiative, a wide range of issues will be addressed in a phased manner, including rangeland ecosystems, pastoral livestock systems, pastoralists’ livelihoods, culture and knowledge, as well as resilience and adaptation to climate change.
The monthly themes will cover topics such as sustainable rangeland use, biodiversity, economic development, social inclusion, the participation of pastoralist women and youth, and innovative solutions. The initiative aims to draw the attention of policymakers, researchers, international organizations, and the general public.
