
Within the framework of the “desertification” theme addressed at the COP17 conference, it is important to come up with concrete solutions to protect ecosystems that squire carbon, water, prevent land degradation.
Here, it is important to emphasize the voices of scientists, pastoralist, indigenous peoples, and local communities.
The conference provided information on the sustainable management of terrestrial carbon sinks in a fire-affected and warming world.
In doing so, examples of Mongolian rangelands, tropical wetlands and forests in South America, and the tundra of Arctic Europe were presented.
The conference, which was attended by representatives of the media, scientists, and herders, was followed by questions and discussions.
