The Green Gold – Mongolian Rangeland Research Center (GGMRRC) participated in the international Workshop on High-Quality Development of the Yak Milk Industry in Asian Highlands and Outcomes Sharing of the NSFC International Cooperation Project, where we shared our experience and ongoing work with Mongolian herder communities to develop yak products and strengthen their value chains.
The workshop brought together scientists and researchers from Nepal, Pakistan, India, Bhutan, China, and Mongolia to exchange knowledge and experiences related to yak milk production, product development, scientific and technological innovations, and market opportunities.
A key objective of the workshop was to facilitate knowledge exchange among highland countries, strengthen regional research and technical cooperation, and explore opportunities to increase the value of yak products and improve benefits for pastoralist communities.
GGMRRC shared its experience in working directly with herder communities to develop traceable yak products with improved quality, packaging, and market access, with the broader goal of creating greater value from local yak resources and increasing herder household incomes.
The workshop provided an important platform for strengthening collaboration among scientists and practitioners across the Asian highlands and for exploring future cooperation in yak milk research, processing technologies, product innovation, and value-chain development.
